Jodies Kitchen Super Dooper Chili Beans |
This is one of those chili bean recipes that you might look at and say yummy, then when you look at the recipe, you say to many ingredients, and that looks like a lot of trouble.
You are right there are lots of ingredients.
You will noticed however, most of it is just opening cans and dumping it all in to your Slow Cooker or a large pot.
It really comes together quickly, and after making it the first time you will realize it's much easier than you thought.
I never really deviate much from the recipe.Making it as called for you get a really nice heat that most people can tolerate, but the heat level in this recipe can be changed easily to what your family likes.
We use hot country sausage, and hot salsa,so of course you could do mild for both if you wish.
Another idea is,you can substitute the ground beef, with turkey, and of course we have used our share of ground deer meat (venison) as well.
If your not a fan of using canned products, you can always change that as well,by doing your own beans and salsa. This is another great recipe handed down from Momma.

1 lb.hot breakfast sausage
1 lb. hamburger
2 cans chilli beans (15 1/2 oz ) any good brand you like
1 can Kidney beans 16 oz. Drained and rinsed
1 can pintos 15 oz. drained and rinsed
1 jar salsa 16 oz. any brand you like (using hot will make your beans spicier)
1 can diced tomatoes 14 1/2 oz
1 can cream of mushroom
1 can tomato sauce 8 oz
Velveeta cheese 8 oz
1 1/2 tsp. Chilli powder
1/2 tsp. Cayenne pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
Brown sausage and hamburger, drain off grease.Add all ingredients to a slow cooker or large pot, mix well and cook about 2 hours. The longer the better, but really all ingredients are already cooked, just need time to get those flavors together. If you are cooking on the stove in a pot make sure to stir once in a while so it doesnt stick.Wait until cooking time is up before adjusting any spices.
